Our 15th Annual Share-A-Thon — Planning is well underway now for our Share-A-Thon coming up October 4-6.  Our theme will be “Preserving The Old Time Religion For The Next Generation”.  We are excited about having some of the great preachers and their wives that we have honored at our Broadcasters Banquets join us on air on Saturday, October 6.  These include Bros. John Hull, Garland Odom, Mrs. C. L. Roach, Roy H. Smith, Ralph Tapley,  Sis. Joan Tyson, Charles Williams, and Horace Wilson.  This area owes a great debt to these great men and women for standing true to the Old Time Gospel of Jesus Christ and reaching many thousands of souls.

On the other end of the “age” scale, we look forward to having a number of Youth Groups from local churches with us that day.  We would like to invite each of you to bring your Youth to meet these men and women, experience the Share-A-Thon, and see Christian radio in action.  God is, and has been, doing some great things that our young people need to be know about.  We will have hamburgers, hotdogs, and all the fixins all day long.

Podcasting — What is a “podcast”?  It is a broadcast that you can save to your computer, and listen whenever you wish.  It is similar to recording TV programs on a DVR.  If you are interested in “Podcasts”, we can now make them available to you for programs that we air from our website at www.wordchristianbroadcasting.com.  If you are interested in receiving “podcasts”, please call us at 770-920-1520.  Although we have this ability, we want to make sure we have an audience for it before we invest the time to load the programs.

PRAISE THE LORD FOR:

Financial Planning-God’s Way

America is truly the land of opportunity.  God has blessed us to live in the richest country in the world today, as well as in history.  In fact, part of our challenge in turning this nation back to God is that our people are so prosperous.  We are distracted by all our toys and other possessions!  Another problem is that we live a very “stressed out” life trying to pay for all these possessions.
Here are a few principles that can help us enjoy the blessings of our prosperity without being caught up in Satan’s trap of materialism and debt.

1.      Recognizing God’s ownership and our stewardship —
Acknowledging His ownership will focus us on being thankful for what He has chosen to place within our hands.  Awareness of our stewardship will cause us to be a better manager of what He has chosen to place within our hands.
3.      Realizing that riches are relative, and deciding to live today on today’s income — The richest people in the world in 1900 did not live as well as we do today!  They did not have central heating & air conditioning, microwave ovens, cellphones, computers,  and a thousand other conveniences we enjoy.  However, today’s “cutting edge” technology is tomorrow’s “dinosaur”.  Rest assured, tomorrow’s product will be bigger (or smaller), faster, and/or better.  Deciding to live on today’s income means that we don’t “overreach” and mortgage our future.
4.      Handling debt like a lion in a cage — Ever notice how careful a lion tamer is when he is in the cage with the big cats?  He respects them, does not relax in their presence, and doesn’t trust them too much.  Proverbs 22:7 warns us that “the borrower is servant to the lender.”   The “lion” of unsecured debt (also known as credit card debt) will “eat you alive”.  Some of the ways it does this are:
a.      High interest rates (sometimes 20% or more)
b.      Minimum payments (meaning you will pay them for the rest of your life)
c.      Temptation to keep spending (more cards and higher credit limits)
5.      Saving some of what we earn — Proverbs 6 tells us to go to the ant and consider her ways.  The ant prepares for the future by storing up supplies today.  Saving some of what we earn has a tremendous psychological benefit.

6.  It changes the way we think.  It encourages us.  It points us in the right direction.  It helps our self-esteem.  No matter how small, beginning a savings program launches us toward financial prosperity.  It opens the door that leads to wise uses of our assets.
7.      Tithing — This first principle of stewardship puts God to work on our behalf.  Malachi 3:10-11 teaches us that we put God to the test when we tithe!  He invited us to “prove” him and see if He won’t “open the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”  And He promises to rebuke the “devourer” for our sake.  When God is working on our behalf, things just seem to work out!  Effort is not wasted.  Things don’t have to be “redone”.  We are guided to right decisions, and our money goes farther.
8.      Giving — Last, but not least, giving activates the promise of Luke 6:38.  A generous heart produces generosity in return.  We really do reap what we sow!  Our purpose here on earth is to give ourselves to God and other people.  The more we do this, the more we experience “the stuff life is made of”.  And, the more we try to give it away, the more it just keeps coming back to us.
These few simple realizations have the power to change our lives for the better.  Have you ever stood at the edge of a shower, and gradually moved under its’ cascading water.  Every inch you moved, you became wetter and wetter as you came under the “spout where the water came out.”  Likewise, every decision we make to live our lives God’s way brings us more under the “spout where the glory comes out.”
